Farasha & Su'ad Present:

Samara - "A Celebration!"

Samara

Saturday, March 10, 2018
Connecticut College
Crozier Williams Student Center
270 Mohegan Avenue
New London, CT

We are pleased to have the multi-talented Samara as our 2018 teacher and featured performer. Samara's hallmark style, a blend of serene elegance, spiritual grace, earthy passion, and technical prowess, is the result of a life long commitment to Oriental dance. Drawn to the dance since she was a child, Samara began dancing professionally in her teens. Her Mediterranean heritage, extensive study of several dance forms, and natural organic talent soon made her one of the most sought after dancers in the New York area.

Samara has constantly challenged herself in the pursuit of the art of Middle Eastern dance at its highest level. In this quest she was aided by her outstanding dance mentor, the late master dancer/teacher/choreographer, Ibrahim "Bobby" Farrah, with whom she studied for over 15 years. As a member of his renowned Near East Dance Group, Samara has performed in some of America's most prestigious concert halls.

Ibrahim Farrah said of Samara: "On stage, Samara appears as if she just descended from some cool, moonlit, outer region of the ether. She delights her audiences with a demeanor of restrained classicism that seems to belong to another age and place... Though she is American born, Samara's spirit evokes the pure Orient."

February 2018 marks the 20th year since Mr. Farrah’s untimely passing. We first met Samara as part of taking seminars with Mr. Farrah in New York City. We have asked Samara to be our master teacher and guest performer as part of a celebration of Bobby’s influence on our dance and passion for this art. We also plan an open lunch discussion to talk about our experiences with Bobby. For more on Samara see samaradance.com.
